General Dynamics Mission Systems Senior Network Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities for this Position

GDMS has an immediate opening for a Senior Network Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


  • A key contributor supporting various GDMS customer network environments such as routers, switches, circuits, firewalls, wireless, intrusion prevention devices, etc.

  • Implements/Supports/Monitors/Troubleshoots network issues being physical or virtual network infrastructure components and coordinates with team members and/or vendors

  • Participates as an active team member to be knowledgeable within the different elements of the networking environment

  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change

  • Translates projects requirements into detailed designs that present no impact to business operations

  • Analyzes, interprets and refines requirements to assure understanding of assignment

  • Monitors production environment and ensures all processes are performed

  • Provides analysis for implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to network problems

  • Solution-oriented approach to analyzing technical problems that affect team and process improvement by increases understanding of process applications within domain of expertise

  • Subject matter expert (SME) in one discipline/field and developing working knowledge in adjacent disciplines/field

  • Travel may be required


  • Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments

  • Practices at a level of expert experience within primary domain and resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways

  • Practices working on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors

  • With little assistance able to break a less complex problem into manageable parts and organize approach and solution in a systematic way

  • Understands how domain interrelates with other components within the closed and enterprise networking environment

  • Understanding how to effectively manage risks taken with sound logic under own initiative

  • Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills

  • Increasing experience at developing/integrating new ideas, optimizing alternatives & establishing backup plans

  • Perfecting ability to move into new teams and quickly learn project defined specific process while applying past knowledge and experience

  • May provide work direction to other employees

  • Improving to communicate technical information clearly so that it may be understood by a non-technical individual

  • Practicing to use direct persuasion in a discussion, such as appeals to reason, data, larger purpose


Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred. Experience in the following products/technologies is highly desired:

  • Linux

  • Citrix

  • Oracle

  • SQL

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise

  • ClearCase (configuration management)

  • Git (configuration management)

  • Web services

Highly desired certifications include:

  • Security+

  • Network+


Department of Defense Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
