The X-Lab is a very fast paced and dynamic environment. The X-Lab is responsible for developing future looking prototypes for the Ballistic Missile Defense System including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development and other critical leading edge missile defense technologies. The X-Lab has need for a Senior Level Systems Engineer to assist in full cycle systems engineering of advanced concepts including CONOPS development, system interface design, algorithm design, tool development and system analysis(functional and performance). This position will focus on the integration of the R&D systems into theBMDS Battle Management, Command & Control, and Communications (C2BMC) system, and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab and Special Projects as needed. The engineer will require the ability to contribute to the development of system requirements and use cases, develop CONOPS, plan test events, develop test architectures, conduct peer reviews, and analyze test results. Assessing how the C2BMC prototype system performs using state vectors, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities. The System Engineer will apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations. A successful applicant should have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions. Candidates should have experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g. specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc). Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management is desirable. Skills required include: identification and definition of desired capabilities, fielding of new capabilities, system-of-system definition, integration practices and methods, communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, and missile defense and sensor related data analysis. Additional skills desired: Experience with professional analysis tools: Matlab, Excel, S-code, STK, MS-Windows; Unix/Linux Coding skills (Java, C , or shell scripts) a plus.

This position will serve as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical studies and applications and will consult with peers on advanced projects and/or programs. Responsibilities also include mentoring junior engineers on advanced technical concepts and ensuring technical knowledge transfer is occurring across the team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Math, Science, Engineering or related technical field

  • 12 years’ experience and expertise in systems-of-systems definition and integration

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Understanding of systems engineering, systems design and development

  • Ability to analyze high level needs and through a structured and logical approach refine the need into an integrated set of requirements that leads to a fielded product.

  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral).

  • Able to write and implement engineering plans within a project.

  • Ability to travel on occasion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Math, Science, Engineering or related technical field

  • Experience in Ballistic Missile Defense

  • Knowledge of command and control systems

  • Knowledge of Windows required and Unix operating systems

  • Knowledge of ballistic missile track correlation algorithms.

  • Experience with Missile Defense Systems, Aegis Weapon System and algorithm development

  • Active TS/SCI clearance
