_Schedule:_ This is a Per Requested Need (PRN) or “as needed” position. There are not a guaranteed number of hours offered each week. This position is not benefits eligible.

_Shift:_ Days

_Position Summary_

EKG Technician performs inpatient and outpatient 12 Lead electrocardiograph recordings, holter/event monitor placement/scanning as needed, and treadmill stress testing along with related documentation.

_Minimum Education Requirements_

  • High school graduate or GED

_Minimum Experience Requirements_

  • Previous patient care experience; on the job training; good verbal and written skills; basic clerical, computer data entry and math skills.


  • Current BLS certification required from American Heart Association

  • Basic EKG certification require within 6 months of hire date

  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 18 months of starting this role with any Centura Health facility

_Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )_

  • Confirms that appropriate patient information is present and complete prior to starting a procedure.*

  • Confirms patient identification and understanding of procedure.*

  • Performs thorough and accurate routine and emergency EKGs as ordered by physician.*

  • Presents all STAT EKGs to RN immediately after completion.*

  • Responds immediately to ‘Code Blue’ as required.*

  • Provides patient with emotional support.*

  • Performs specialized testing using computer assisted devices including holter/event monitor application, signal averaged EKG and treadmill stress tests.*

  • Maintains and reviews equipment, ensuring proper function and machine calibration; informs biomed when malfunctions occur.*

  • Recognizes and promptly acts upon unusual heart rhythms or patient response by informing primary health care team to ensure patient safety and foster optimal outcome.*

  • Promptly trouble-shoots and corrects recording instrument malfunction or unusual patient problems which interfere with the recordings.*

  • Processes patient and department records ensuring documentation of performed tests in accordance with hospital standards.*

  • Communicates in a clear and courteous manner with patients, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians and other departments.*

  • Maintains patient confidentiality.*

  • Serves as a patient advocate.*

  • Follows through and tracks proper handling and completion of patient care documents and charges.*

  • Maintains high skill level through ongoing training and attendance at 80% of staff meetings.*

  • Provides on-call coverage for the Cardiovascular Services Department.*

  • Demonstrates ability to organize tasks and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.*

  • Effectively uses time, personnel, equipment and supplies to provide high quality, cost effective EKG services.*

_Physical Requirements_

  • Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
